UN VIENNA

Due to its strategic location on the Bosphorus peninsula between the Balkans and Anatolia, Black Sea and the Mediterranean, Istanbul has been associated with major political, religious and artistic events for more than 2.000 years. Its masterpieces include the ancient Hippodrome of Constantine, the 6th. century Hagia Sophia and the 16th. century Süleymaniye Mosque.

RUSSIA

The stamp on the left shows a picture of theSüleymaniye Mosque, one of the monuments located at the Historic Areas of Istanbul. The Historic Areas of Istanbul are a group of sites in the capital district of Fatih in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. These areas were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. This World Heritage Site includes buildings and structures such as the Sarayburnu, the Topkapı Palace, the Hagia Sophia, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the Hagia Irene, Zeyrek Mosque, Süleymaniye Mosque, Little Hagia Sophia and the Walls of Constantinople.
