RUSSIA

This cover from Russia depict a joint issue Russia-Romania issued in 2008, celebrating 2 World Heritage Sites: St. Dmitry Cathedral in Vladimir (Russia), and St. Georgy Church, Voronets Monastery (Romania). St. Dmitry Cathedral is partt of The White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal in Russia have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Voronets Monastery is one of the Churches of Moldavia - the site comprises eight churches built in the 15th and 16th centuries. In line with the regional period style, the facades of the churches are entirely covered by frescos inspired by the Byzantine art. The paintings depict Biblical themes and are well preserved. The churches include the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist Church, the Assumption of the Virgin and of Saint George's Church of the Humor Monastery, the Church of the Annunciation of Moldovița Monastery, the Sacred Cross Church, the Saint Nicolas' Church of Probota Monastery, the Saint John the New Monastery, the Saint George's Church of the former Voroneț Monastery, and the Church of the Resurrection of Sucevița Monastery (pictured). The site was added to the list of UNESCO WSorld Heritage Sites in 1993.

ROMANIA

This beautiful UNESCO cover from Romania depicts a minisheet/joint issue with Russian Federation issued in 2008. Both monuments featured in this minisheet are part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Church of St George / Churches of Moldavia and Cathedrtal of St. Demetrius / White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal. The eight Romanian Orthodox Churches of Moldavia (including the Church of St George) are located in Suceava County, northern Moldavia, and were built approximately between 1487 and 1583. The churches have their external walls covered in authentic and unique fresco paintings, representing complete cycles of religious themes. Since 1993, they have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal (which includes the Cathedral of St Demetrius) in Russia have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. The patrimony embraces eight medieval limestone monuments of Zalesye from the late 12th and early 13th centuries. They include Russian Orthodox churches and a monastery, as well as a castle and gate:

ROMANIA

A nice UNESCO cover from Romania, depicting a joint set with Russian Federation issued in 2008 on topic "UNESCO Churches in Romania and Russia" and a single stamp issued in 2011 celebrating the fortified church of Biertan. Both churches Voronet and Biertan) are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site called "Villages with fortified churches in Transylvania". This site comprises seven villages with fortified churches that were built between the 13th and the 16th centuries by Transylvanian Saxons. The settlement pattern and the organization of the villages have been preserved since the Middle Ages. Six villages (Câlnic, Dârjiu, Prejmer, Saschiz, Valea Viilor, and Viscri) were listed in the original nomination in 1993 while the village of Biertan was added in 1999. Also the Saint Demetrius Church is depicted in one stamp - the Cathedral of Saint Demetrius ) is a cathedral in the ancient Russian city of Vladimir. It was finished in 1197 during the reign of the Grand Prince Vsevolod the Big Nest of Vladimir-Suzdal to the honour of Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki. Being an important component of the White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal, the cathedral belongs to the World Heritage of UNESCO since 1992. Currently, the cathedral is a part of the Vladimir-Suzdal open-air museum.
