AUSTRIA

This cover from Austria depicts 2 stamps, including the 0,95€ stamp (on the right corner), celebrating the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, a part of the World Heritage Site Wachau Cultural Landscape. The Wachau is an Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations of Lower Austria, located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems that also attracts "connoisseurs and epicureans" for its high-quality wines. A well-known place and tourist attraction is Dürnstein, where King Richard I of England was held captive by Leopold V, Duke of Austria. The architectural elegance of its ancient monasteries (Melk Abbey and Göttweig Abbey), castles and ruins combined with the urban architecture of its towns and villages, and the cultivation of vines as an important agricultural produce are the dominant features of the valley. The Wachau was inscribed as Wachau Cultural Landscape in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in recognition of its architectural and agricultural history, in December 2000.

AUSTRIA

A very nice cover from Austria, depicting 3 different stamps with some pictures of the ruins of the roman city of Carnuntum, Austria. The ruins are part of the Danube Roman Limes. The Danubian Limes, a network of fortifications along the Danube river, protected the borders of the Roman Empire.The Austrian section is 357.5 km long and includes sites at 46 locations. The site is shared with Germany and Slovakia. In 2021, the western segment of the Danube Limes were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the set of "Frontiers of the Roman Empire" World Heritage Sites.

AUSTRIA

Graz is known as a college and university city, with four colleges and four universities. Combined, the city is home to more than 60,000 students. Its historic centre (Altstadt) is one of the best-preserved city centres in Central Europe. In 1999, the city's historic centre was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and in 2010 the designation was expanded to include Eggenberg Palace on the western edge of the city.

Pionierkreuz is a shrine in Obertraun, Gmunden District, Upper Austria and has an elevation of 1,398 metres. Pionierkreuz is situated nearby to Dachstein Mammoth Cave and the scenic viewpoint 5 Fingers. It is also part of the Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape. UNESCO designated Hallstatt–Dachstein/Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape (Kulturlandschaft Hallstatt–Dachstein/Salzkammergut) a World Heritage Site in 1997, with the description: "Human activity in the magnificent natural landscape of the Salzkammergut began in prehistoric times, with the salt deposits being exploited as early as the 2nd millennium B.C. This resource formed the basis of the area's prosperity up to the middle of the 20th century, a prosperity that is reflected in the fine architecture of the town of Hallstatt."

AUSTRIA

AUSTRIA

This cover from Austria depicts a single stamp issued in 2022 celebrating the Augustiner Braustübl Mülln. Since 1621, this is the Austria's biggest beer tavern, in Salzburg’s Mülln neighbourhood. With an indoor seating area of 5.000 m2, the Bräustübl tavern and Brewery is Austria’s largest and boasts a further 1400 seats in the outdoor beer garden. The beer is drawn from wooden barrels and served in stone jugs, or steins. Regional and traditional dishes can be bought directly from various food stands in the "Schmankerlgang" (Delicatessen arcade) which is set up to resemble a traditional marketplace. The Bräustübl is a well-respected traditional meeting place – a piece of living history in the world heritage centre of Salzburg.

AUSTRIA

This cover came from Austria and features a single stamp issued in 2022, celebrating the town of Baden bei Wien. The Town of Baden bei Wien is one of the Spa Towns in Europe, listed as a World Heritage Site since 2021. The Great Spa Towns of Europe is a transnational World Heritage Site consisting of a selection of 11 spa towns across seven European countries. They were developed around natural mineral water springs. From the early 18th century to the 1930s, Western Europe experienced an increase in spa and bathing culture, leading to the construction of elaborate bath houses. These would often include gardens, casinos, theatres, and villas surrounding the springs and the bath house. The city of Bath was originally inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1987. The efforts to get the Great Spas of Europe onto the World Heritage List began in 2012, and the nomination was submitted in 2019. On 24 July 2021, the Great Spas of Europe were officially inscribed on the World Heritage List.

This cover from Austria depict 2 stamps celebrating the Schönlaterngasse. Schönlaterngasse ("Street of the Beautiful Lantern") is a small winding alleyway in central Vienna. In the Middle Ages it was known as Straße der Herren von Heiligenkreuz ("street of the gentlemen of Heiligenkreuz"), as it passes the Heiligenkreuzer Hof ("Holy Cross courtyard"). Later on, it carried several names that still referred to the Heiligenkreuzer Hof before being named after the "beautiful lantern" in 1780. The buildings along the alley date back to Baroque times. The street is part of the Historic Centre of Vienna, In 2001, the city center was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is featured on the commemorative stamp and used to be the world’s largest glass structure. Schönbrunn Palace was the residence of the Habsburg emperors from the 18th century to 1918. It was built in the Rococo style as a single, unified project. It was designed by the architects Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and Nicolaus Pacassi and is the site of the world's oldest continuously operating Zoo. The Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn are inscribed as an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996.

AUSTRIA

This cover from Austria depict a joint stamps with Ukraine, celebrating the Historic Centre of L'viv. The city of L'viv was founded in the late Middle Ages and it still preserves its medieval topography. The city has been shaped by the interactions of different communities that have lived there through centuries, including various Christian groups, Muslims, and a Jewish community. The architecture of the city represents a fusion of styles form Eastern Europe with the influences coming from Italy and Germany. Several buildings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods have been preserved. Since 1998, UNESCO has listed Lviv's historic centre as part of "World Heritage". On 5 December 1998, during the 22nd Session of the World Heritage Committee in Kyoto, Lviv was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

AUSTRIA

This UNESCO cover with a single stamp issued in 2010 celebrates the Historic Centre of Salzburg. The Altstadt Salzburg is a district of Salzburg, Austria, recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. It corresponds with the historic city centre, situated on the left and right banks of the Salzach river. The most significant monuments of the city are located in the Altstadt. Salzburg played a crucial role in the interchange between Italian and German cultures, resulting in a flowering of the two cultures and a long-lasting exchange between them, which is visible especially in the Baroque architecture. Salzburg is a prime example of a European ecclesiastical city-state, resulting in many important buildings, both secular and religious, from the Gothic period to the 20th century. The city is also well known for its associations with the arts, especially with the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
