ESTONIA

An interesting cover from Estonia, featuring a miniature sheet issued in 2018 on topic "Tallin-Monte Carlo Electric Car Rallye". On the top of this miniature sheet we can see some pictures of Tallinn. Tallinn is the capital, the most populous and the primate city of Estonia. Located in the northern part of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea, it has a population of about 440,000. Tallinn, first mentioned in 1154, received city rights in 1248, but the earliest human settlements date back 5,000 years. The first recorded claim over the land was laid by Denmark in 1219, after a successful raid of Lyndanisse led by King Valdemar II, followed by a period of alternating Scandinavian and Teutonic rulers. It was known one of the most important medieval port city centers in the Gulf of Finland together with Turku; due to its strategic location in the Baltic Sea, the city became a major trade hub, especially from the 14th to the 16th century, when it grew in importance as part of the Hanseatic League. Tallinn's Old Town in Kesklinn is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

ESTONIA

A nice Unesco cover from Estonia, depicting a miniature sheet issued in 2011 on topic "Struve Geodetic Arc".
The Struve Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Hammerfest in Norway to the Black sea, through 10 countries (including Moldova, of course) and over 2,820 km. These are points of a survey, carried out between 1816 and 1855 by the astronomer Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, which represented the first accurate measuring of a long segment of a meridian. This helped to establish the exact size and shape of the planet and marked an important step in the development of earth sciences and topographic mapping. It is an extraordinary exemple of scientific collaboration among scientists from different countries and of collaboration betweeen monarchs for a scientific cause.

A marvelous cover that I've prepared to myself, posted at the McMurdo South Pole Station, Antarctica.
The McMurdo Station is a United States Antarctic research center on the south tip of Ross Island. The station is the largest community in Antarctica, capable of supporting up to 1.250 residentes, and serves as one of three United States Antarctic science facilities. All personnel and cargo going to or coming from Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station first pass through McMurdo.

BULGARIA

A nice UNESCO cover from Bulgaria, depicting a miniature sheet issued in 2018 that celebrates "The Nestinarstvo fire-dancing rite".
The Nestinarstvo fire-dancing rite is the climax of the anual Panagyr ritual on the feast of Saints Constantine and Helena (3 and 4 June) in the village of Bulgari, in the Mount Strandzha, region of south-east Bulgaria. The festival culminates in a fire-dance in the evening as the highest form of veneration of the Saints. People silently form a circle around the burning embers led by the sacred drum, and the Nestinari, who are spiritual and physical leaders through whom the saints express their will, begin entering the circle and treading the embers. Formerly celebrated in some thirty nearby Bulgarian and Greek Villages, Nestinarstvo remains today in Bulgari, a avillage of only a hundred persons.
